It is a gem formed from silica-rich waters and its name is take from the Sanskrit word Upala which means precious stone. With a water content of 6 to 10% Opals are best kept in a moist environment away from bright dry conditions. Opals love to be worn and the ambient moisture found in everyday wear is all your opal will need to be well cared for. Placing your Opal in a glass of lukewarm water for 15 minutes once a year will prevent it from drying out and cracking.
